My crawl space smells musty. Is that a moisture problem?
Almost certainly yes. Musty odors in a crawl space — or in the house above it — are produced by the conditions that elevated moisture creates. Organic materials like wood and insulation in contact with high humidity develop that characteristic smell. The odor is a symptom of the moisture condition, not a separate problem. Controlling the moisture controls the odor.
How do I know what's causing the moisture in my crawl space?
